An Account of Dirty Dishes

This text is a critical account written during a 2025 residency, documenting the internal collapse of the Bebe Books collective. It analyzes how a dispute over labor and hierarchy exposed a gap between the group’s public ethos of queer collectivity and the author’s account of founder control, ultimately leading to the unionization of its workers.
