The Banality of a Director-Like State of Mind

This essay introduces the concept of the “director-like state of mind,” a neuro-affective condition produced through the cognitive and institutional modulation of subjectivity within contemporary cultural institutions. Drawing on Arendt’s notion of the banality of evil and extending it through theories of the society of control, neural plasticity, mimicry, and the attention economy, the text analyzes how institutional environments shape patterns of thought, language, and affect that reproduce institutional power while rendering structural violence difficult to name.
